ABOUT THE JRA

The Jesmond Residents Association was founded in 1964 and has been in continuous existence since then.
It is funded entirely by membership subscriptions and is completely independent and non-political.
The Association represents the interests of all Jesmond residents and amongst its activities it:

  • Monitors all planning applications submitted to the City Council

  • Monitors all licencing applications submitted to the City Council

  • Is engaged in the protection and conservation of buildings and trees

  • Is involved in formulating the Local Development Framework, HMO licencing and student affairs

  • Liaises and works with local Councillors, and our MP, as well as City Council officers and the Community Police.

  • Is a member of the National Organisation of Residents Associations and the National HMO Lobby which are both National bodies

  • Supports the Jesmond Community Forum and other local organisations and residents groups

The Association holds an Annual General Meeting, which this year is in September and distributes a free bi-annual newsletter to all households in Jesmond.
It also has an annual street collection at Christmas in aid of St. Oswald's Hospice.   If you would like to  help,
please contact us.
Aims
The Association is strongly aware of the amenities provided by the long established character of Jesmond and the resulting benefits to its residents, its local businesses and to its visitors.
The Association seeks to protect and foster this environment by encouraging developments which respect it.  In particular, it wishes to develop a fair balance of interest between long-term, often family, residents and those on a more temporary stay.
Operating Policy
The Association is non-political.
It will continue to work with all elected representatives, Council officers and other organisations, both local and national.
It will continue to liaise with and support any individuals or groups on issues affecting the community.
From time to time, the elected Committee will submit to the membership at the AGM a set of broad policies for approval to provide a guide to the Committee's activities.

(Adopted by the membership, 19th September 2007 AGM as a guide to its activities.)
