Newcastle nightclub censured by Advertising Standards Authority A flyer circulated by the Riverside nightclub has been censured by the Advertising Standards Authority as being irresponsible, following complaints by residents.  The flyer contained sexually explicit imagery and phrases and the ASA "concluded therefore that the circular was likely to cause serious and widespread offence and was not appropriate for an untargeted medium, where it could be seen by children."  The flyer was also posted on a wall near Eslington Terrace.
Originally, company bosses claimed they saw “no problem with the flyer”.

Group lodges objection to plans for former school site The Journal (21 February 2012) has a report on the JRA's objections to the redevelopment.

A Jesmond community group fighting the redevelopment of a historic Tyneside building into luxury apartments has lodged a formal objection

     to the scheme.

Members of the Jesmond Residents Association fear plans to create 60 homes within the former La Sagesse school site at Jesmond Towers will spoil a precious conservation area and wipe out valuable open space.

    Councils disagree on planning proposals

Three North East England councils are at odds over a housing strategy which could result in residential development of Green Belt land.

Sunderland City Council has submitted a holding objection to the inclusion of land near the Leam Lane estate which has been proposed for new housing by Newcastle and Gateshead Councils as part of their emerging One Core Strategy.

Sunderland says the proposal represented a “significant intrusion on to land that has been protected as green belt land for over 25 years”.

Historic Powers in the Localism Act pass to communities

A host of new powers to put communities back in charge of their own affairs has become a reality as the Coalition Government's localism agenda takes another major step forward.

The Localism Act, which received Royal Assent in November 2011, takes power from central government and hands it back to local authorities and communities - giving them the freedom and flexibility to achieve their own ambitions.

The North East’s latest landmark targeted for destruction

Designed by Sir Basil Spence, the former Bank of England building, located at the bottom of Pilgrim Street next to the Swan House roundabout, has formed an easily recognisable part of Newcastle city centre’s heritage for many years now.

However as part of ambitious plans for the regeneration of East Pilgrim Street, this historic structure is set to be demolished to make room for a new seven-storey tower which council leaders hope will form the flagship building in Newcastle’s new central business district. As experts in the field of urban regeneration, these plans have understandably captured redboxdesigngroup‘s attention.

Resident accuses  JRA of not being representative of residents views on La Sagesse planning proposals In a letter to the Journal (14th January 2011), a resident has asserted that the JRA had stated "'that the proposal to save Jesmond Towers is obviously welcomed' was without foundation and is entirely wrong".   The resident went on to say that the JRA "had not consulted residents and was in no position to purport to speak on their behalf".

The JRA has responded to this and has sent a letter to the Journal setting out its position on the proposals.
