    The JRA

    What we are...

The JRA was founded in 1964 and has been in continuous existence ever since.  It is the oldest association of its kind in Newcastle upon Tyne and one of the oldest in England. It is a member of the National Organisation of Residents Associations, the National HMO Lobby and the Jesmond Community Forum.

    What we do...

The JRA supports, helps and acts on residents' behalf wherever possible. Opinions and statements offered orally and in writing are given free of charge and in good faith and as such are offered without legal responsibility on the part either of the originator or the JRA itself. The JRA liaises with local Ward Councillors and Council Officers to bring matters of local concern to their attention and to help resolve problems that arise. It will also represent residents, when asked, at certain hearings and put forward their views. We rely heavily on information given to us by residents, which helps us to make submissions and views based on the majority of local opinion. The JRA is not able to make changes to regulations and legislation but acts as a pressure group to bring about changes which residents feel are of importance and which affect the community as a whole. As a member of the National Organisation of Residents Associations and the National HMO Lobby, it can contribute to discussions and consultations at Government level. There is no formal membership as such. The JRA acts in the interests of all Jesmond residents.

    Support us

The JRA is a non-profit organisation, which is independently funded by residents' donations. If you would like to make a donation, please contact our Treasurer, Bernie Whiting, 2 Jesmond Gardens, NE2 2JN. His email address is berniewhiting@hotmail.co.uk Most residents make their annual donations by Standing Order, which saves you having to remember each year and us having to remind you. If you would like to make your donation this way, please ask the Treasurer for a Standing Order Mandate, which he will be pleased to send to you. The amount of the donation is up to you but might we suggest £5.00 per annum, which covers your household.
